Indian Food... share your culinary knowledge, please

So, i finally have another option for lunch, "Taste of India" just opened across the street. Schweet!

All y'all with Indian Food Knowledge, please help out with advice on good stuff for vegetarians like myself to ask for. I have enjoyed the Indian food i have had in the past, but i don't remember what i was eating those few times.

So what do i look for, and how do i know if it's good? C'mon Brits- i know you guys have an indian joint on every block...

My stomach and taste buds thank you in advance.

Ah, we have one in Charlotte that me and a coworker went to one time, it was great. Little tip, make sure you eat the Hijinks(sp??) when your done so your not flaming in the bathroom afterwards <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> As for what to eat I dunno our place has a buffet. They did have for desert these little doughnut type things that were soaked in rose water(or something to the effect, Man those were GREAT!!! Ill get back with you tommorrow, the little Sri Lankin at work will remember what I ate <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Indian food, where do I start lol :P

Most curry houses offer Chicken, Pork, Shimp or VEGETABLES as the main content of the curry.

Side dishes :

Onion Bhaji - Its been a long time since I have had one, but it is a tiny bit simular to a blooming onion.

Popadoms with dip - Look or ask for light green colored dip, very nice and tangy. They also sometimes serve Indian chutneys.

Keema Naans - A bread type side dish filled with a flat Spicey Lamb substance.

Main Dish - well where do we start, most Curry dishes I love. Depending on the quality of the "house" the currys are as follows...

Phall - OMG ultra hot. Please do not be macho man/woman about this, it is NOT the same heat as your standard chilli pepper.

Vindaloo - Very Very Hot, you can even taste the food sometimes lol

Madras - Mild - Hot. Very tasty, creamy "cocoanut" curry dish, I usually have this or the Vindaloo

Beriyani - dark mild curry, based on Tomatoe, relatively Mild.

Desert - Nothing better to cool you down that a Lemon or Orange Sorbet.

Indian meals are known for being the best when it comes to vegetarian dishes, so simply have a word with the waiter and ask what they can recommend for a veggie.
