How do you feel about policeware?
Big Brother anyone????
The ACLU would never let something like this slide. It might get passed, but would be in the supreme court within a year. I bet with the right backing it would easily be overturned and deemed unconstitutional. But it is really scarry that they keep pushing for this stuff, you know Ashcroft is licking his lips for laws like this.

WHO COULD GO TO JAIL?
You, if you're one of the millions of Americans who uses your computers to burn music CD's, listen to MP3's, share video files, etc. You'd face up to five years in federal prison and a $500,000 fine.
Think you'd be able to get around the law by removing the
policeware from your personal computer? Think again -- anyone who defies the government by disabling or tampering with the policeware on their own computer, in the privacy of their own home or business, would also face five years in the slammer.
Since alternative operating systems like Linux and FreeBSD
would most likely refuse to incorporate government policeware into their code, users of these open-source systems would also be eligible for hard time.

I think the last paragraph bothered me the most.
people would definatley die over this...
This is old, and wasn't passed. They can try again and again, but it still wont be passed. Theres no reason to be an alarmist.
this will not pass y?
Its bad to have everyone against you than having the RIAA against you

it is just a matter of time before something like this is passed. i don't understand the concern expressed here though. time and time again subjects like this have been brought up in these forums and no one seems to care. cameras are everywhere...email is read...bank accounts and purchases are tracked...and now the government wants the wireless companies to track the whereabouts of cell users and give them the info. so what is another small intrusion?
This has been turned down in congress already twice. Neither Democrat or Republican would vote for this. Im not a cynic, I just know the truth. We would ban guns before this would be passed.

I dunno about that. The people chasing this sort of control, are generally the ones that least understand it. I bet you they understand guns.. point, click, bang, and its your constitutional right to have one. But computers?.. arent they something those damn communists use ?.. better put some control on them..

Perhaps you misunderstood me,
without cynics like myself, this world would be surprised on a regular basis.
Someone has to point these things out.
We can't let our own government try to sneak cr@p like this by us.
I will always fight for anti-opression, no matter what form it takes.
