This is the worst wreck I have ever heard of.
Back in 99, there was an 82 car pileup on a foggy stretch of Highway 401 near Windsor, Ontario. Eight people died. The ensuing fire was so hot, that the road surface melted.
Very similar to an accident in the UK on the M25 - looks like the Atlanta accident didn't catch fire though, that's a relief.
That's just horrible.
I've got to say that I am pleasantly surprised to find out only 4 died out of 125 cars. It's still upsetting to see this many cars getting in one wreck.
Always very sad to hear when freak accidents happens. Really makes you value each moment. Never know when it might all end.
I'm just surprised it was in north Ga instead of here in Atlanta. The traffic's speed on any interstate is 80 regardless of posted limit. I'm originally from Northeast Pa and they actually enfoce speed limits there. I havent seen someone pulled over on the stretch of road between my office and home but twice in the 2 yrs i've worked there. Rain or shine, 80 in a 55 and you got someone on your bumper.......
Yeah, not in Atlanta, on the outskirts of Chattanooga, just over the border into Georgia.
Wreck happened about 15 minutes away. Don't know anyone injured/killed, though.
fog scares the hell out of me. one stretch i have to drive runs rite up the Ohio river and is socked in regularly. hardly anyone slows down and i know that they cannot see. i'm just waiting for this to happen here. being there 5 minutes sooner is not worth a life.
