Falling axes
Has been a hell of a week. Last Wednesday it was announced that the CEO of our company resigned to persue other interests. Turns out he stepped down to persue a carreer in prison for dipping into the Soc. Sec. funds. So, all week there have ben many closed door meetings, and plenty of rumors flying around, amongst them the inevitable lay offs. Everyone told me, though, that I had nothing to worry about as no one else could keep the network going. They were wrong. Got the notice at 4:30 today when the Personnel director called me into her office and I noticed the CFO and VP of Legal afairs were there already. They gave me an extra two weeks pay and all the nice friendly talk and yada-yada. But in the end I was cleaning out my desk. Not a fun day.

awww not another one, wish you well mayhem...
-
sorry to hear that im sure you'll find bigger better things
-
Stupid! That totally blows. We'll the good thing is if they are canning the IT group it means major downsizing or chapter 11
-
Man Mayhem Totally sorry guy.
I really hope something comes quickly for you.
Just keep the head up and maybe this was something that was to happen so you can do something better or just meant for you. Things all happen for reasons.
Keeping fingers crossed for ya buddy.

Well, I've had some good offers lately but stayed because I pretty much single-handedly built the network there, including both servers and half the workstations. I felt like I lost a child today.
-
Bummer, that happened to me last September right after the WTC. Something will come up for you, like Morticia said, perhaps it was meant to be.
-
I know the feeling mayhem. I got canned from a company that I helped to build. I invested four years of my life, eating, breathing, and sleeping nothing but the company. In the end they closed the location I was at. It's always a shock. Sorry to hear it.
-
That sucks. Sorry to hear. Hope something pops up soon. I don't know what I'd do if something like that happened, I don't have a dime in the bank.
-
Best of luck nailing down another job...at least you take a very good resume' from that place, and can be proud of your accomplishments there. Hang in there, and let us know how the search goes!
-
Look on the bright side. I had a great job that I loved at one point in time. Then I was laid off and that gave me the oppertunity for a career in this field which, in my book, is the best thing that happened to me, career wise, that is. :D

I hate to hear that Mayhem, Good Luck.
-
Ouch, sorry to hear that...
Its not easy being let go. (You got 2 paid weekks, though, thats better than what a lot of companies give).
From your experience there, it sounds like you'll find something better and rather quickly.
Good luck!

Hope that CEO that started this whole cascade gets to spend at least severals days and nights at a lovely county jail with the general population before geting sent to a cushy federal pen.
You'll bounce back, promise.
