Last I saw Win2K/XP were based on the NT Kernel, a slightly different dog than 9X.
What a moron. Then again it's par for the course for people posting on a Zdnet article. Do these guys just sit in front of their computers waiting for the next MS article to pop up, just hoping to show the world how truly ignorant they are??
And why the hell do I ALWAYS start reading these replys?? I think it's just morbid curiosity, like slowing down to look at the injured at a crash site.

You don't even have to read the replies, all you gotta do is scroll down to see the first 5 or so words of them. Heck some of the articles/reviews on those big name sites are as ignorant as the replies they generate.

I got tired of reading the comments section. It's always knee-jerk Microsoft bashing. Bet 1/2 the people who comment there have never actually USED Windows 2000....

"Microsoft sucks. That's why I use a Mac."

"Windows sucks. OS/2 is so much better."

"Visual Basic sucks. Everyone should use COBOL."

etc. etc. etc.

What are you kidding WIndows 95 had the first HAL, NT was just a spoof. 2000 is a hybrid of MAC OS and OS/2. I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when they don't have a clue what they're talking about, it's just wrong and dumb.

I love this OS, I'd buy it tomorrow in the shape it's in now. It can only get better from here. I do have one wish, I hope MS drops DOS compatibility altogether in Blackcomb...and it'd be nice to drop Win 3.x compatibility, too..but I think that's alot less likely.

To think, people want to take out the only good thing that Microsoft has successfully accomplished. I don't want DOS to go away.

I've often wondered if they weren't staged answers. Can't you just hear the monotone voice coming out of the speaker system at ZDNET headquarters? Ok people...no one has replied to the article written today on Win XP. First 20 to post, free twinkies in the cafeteria.

Many of the posters to those sites seem to be "users" with delusions of grandeur. Not all, but many can't be what they say their job title is unless they have no common sense to go with it. Many of them seem so closed minded as to not see the meaning in what isn't written as well. It does not take a rocket scientist to read "between the lines" to tell what is going on, but sometimes I wonder with those saying that they are sys admins posting. It makes you wonder what you can find in a box of Cracker Jacks these days.

Heh, & ZDNet or launching a Tech site to compete with Anandtech & TomsHardware tomorrow as well!!!!! Oh well, looks like that one wil flop before it really starts if this is the type of thing they will be posting.

I hate those Linux freaks on ZDNet! Sure Linux is a good OS but they are so overbiased...if MS came up with a cure for cancer they'd be whining about how it cost too much and how it should come with the GPL license (oops another bad acronym hehe)

As for what I THINK of XP and NET...well I think that XP is not going to be a good OS at all, but people are trying to find some conspiracy about NET. Here's the deal with .net, it provides a simpler platform that integrates stuff togehter (Office XP's integration is the best i've seen). the bad part? it is software as a service.

nothing more nothing less. do you realize the legal battles MS would have if they made spyware on every PC? god...these people on ZDNet are SO stupid... <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

Yeah, that and all your data are belong to M$! Hell, I sure as hell wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that my Microsoft Money checking account info was on file at M$'s servers. And that's just ONE person, me. One little insignificant (in the grand scheme of things) spec in the universe. Imagine major corporations having all their financial info sitting there, ripe for the picking, just waiting to be picked up by some hacker (and I mean a real hacker, not some script kiddie). From a security standpoint, .NET scares the hell out of me. I can't believe Billy boy has let his ego and his desire to control everything non-hardware go this far. Between now and the time of .NET's release, I plan to learn the Linux kernel inside and out and know it like the back of my hand.

Anyway, back on topic, ZDNet is worthless. Every thread turns into a Linux vs. M$ debate, with the Linux guys taking their love for their OS to extremes, and the M$ lovers defending Bill as if he can do no wrong. It's full of nothing but lemmings, and I'd like to see it crumble to rubble. DW showed me a link about their attempt to compete with Tom's Hardware Guide and Anandtech, and I must say they're out of their league here. Tom's and Anandtech have built a reputation among a lot of techs on-line for having (for the most part) unbiased reviews, and giving accurate technical info. I can't see ZDNet doing the same, considering that the stuff they're reviewing is going to be filling their pockets with advertising revenue.

ohh...I think that part of .NET went right over my head! i thought just the applications were on MS servers

MS has to get off cloud 9 and face it, the world isn't ready to have all their data reside on the other end of a wire. I have been having cable modem problems tonight, if my software were on MS servers, my computer would not be operable for as long as RR is down!
