Best Albums Most People Have Never Heard
From your CD rack, what are in your opinion are the best albums that most people have never heard.
from my Rack:
POP/ROCK
Michael Penn - Resigned Holy Crap! What's this? Intelligent Pop music! Great lyrics that take a while to figure out. This one requires a couple of listens before it's greatness really hits home.
Matthew Sweet - Altered Beast The first line of the rolling stone review was "the guitars are out of control" The guitar work is super! and it's one of the darkest albums I've ever heard. This is also a 2 0r 3 listener.
Jellyfish - Spilt Milk in the tradition of sargent pepper beatles. The harmonies are incredible. the lyrics intelligent, and the music varied. A great listen.
Concrete Blonde - Mexican Moon The musical styles differ from song to song. Such a diverse album. Mankey's guitar is exceptional and Johnette's voice is nothing short of amazing.
Afghan Whigs - Gentleman really dark and and rockin in several tracks. great lyric "Ladies let me tell you about my self. I've got a dick for a brain, and my brain is going to sell my a$$ to you"
FOLK/COUNTRY
Dave Carter and Tracey Grammer - Drum Hat Buddah A wonderful album! Intelligent songwriter and beautiful arrangements. Dave carter who wrote all songs writes froms a woman's perspective as well as anyone I (or my fiance) have ever heard.
Dar Williams - Honesty Room Or Mortal City Two different albums but equally impressive. She's one of the great storyteller of my generation IMO. Just listening to "Mortal City" or "When I was a boy" should drive that point home
Luka Bloom - Keeper of the Flame Though an album of covers, he make each song his own. He peforms great versions of BAD by U2, Inbetween days by the cure, and dancing queen by abba with pretty much just a guitar and little else. For his best original work - look to "turf" or "The acoustic motorbike"
CASH - Any of the last few albums Despite being an American music icon, his last few albums haven't been widely heard despite being flat out brilliant. It's hard to pick between "american recordings" "Unchained" and "Solitary man" they are all super and all grammy winners.
Whose UP?
