hey I'm planning on putting a case window into my full tower case.
any tips that some experienced "mod-ers" can give me?
Should I buy a pre-cut window kit or do my own if I have the tools and the patience?
Thanks everyone :)

try plycon.com
they have precut windows, backlights, and etches
if you check out what the atomic etch...that's what mine looks like
www.pcmods.com they have some good stuff, precut windows, etches, lights, bay kits, all kinds of fun stuff.
i would recommend buying precut, but if you can find an extra case side i would recommend doing your experiments on that if you are gonna try it yourself ohh God Absolutely Nothing Worth Caring About :)
Post a pic when done. Been thinking about it myself.
They did have some cool case windows at Think Geek  let me know if ya like how it turns out, cause I was thinking about the plexy glass case mod.
Blah, generic case mods are weak. Go, buy yourself a dremel and design your own window. I did, and it was pretty easy. A quick trip to the Home Depot and I had everything I needed for the window. Radio Shack will be your best friend for electronic parts. I put 2 9" blue neons in my case and it looks pretty good. For a good How-To site check out Virtual Hideout and here for some ideas. You'll see a whole bunch of generic mods, but the cool cases are really, really cool. Anyway, car appliances are the best. They basically run on 12V DC just like the power that runs in the computer.
Let me know what you decide on doing.
C/D what ever you do be careful most sheet metal cases after you cut on them bite!
I was also thinking about doing mod's on my case. I am thinking about spray painting the out side with that paint which changes color's. They use it on tricked out cars and my future brother in law knows people who will do it. I was going to but the neo lights on the inside and make my PC into a lowrider. I think it would just be slick and break the taboo of the mushroom colored PC.
Has anyone ever seen cool keyboard mods?
I've seen a couple, the one I saw was a just a regular keyboard but all the keys had skulls on them. You have to know really how to type to use that one. Other than than just painted key boards. They also have that roll out keybord, which is flat but I think it looks silly. I can't remeber the link but if I find it I will post it.Quote:

Yeah, a good keyboard mod is cool. Run EL wire under the keys to get a nifty glow, of course you have to open the keyboard to do this properly. The painting thing is played. You need to mod your keyboard LEDs and add an extra headphone jack to it as well. Then you'll be the man!
Creeping, the case window sounds like a great idea. i was looking at them online and thay r cool.... I built an AT case a few years back out of clear plexiglass. well just like the one that was on cool cases off this site.. it just sits around now, but i sure enjoyed it... all that extra plexiglass laying around I might dive into putting a window into my new case.... Thanks for resparking my interest.

Sweet! I have been contemplating doing that myself, figured it would look cool with some black lights in it or some neon lights.
Was it hard to make, or did it go together nicely??
Elbatcho,
You mentioned painting your case with the color-changing paint. In my other job, we sell that stuff (the PPG version) and it looks great with a couple coats of clear over it. Just be sure it is put over a black base or it won't shift the colors like you'd expect.
