Motherboard makes Windows crash?

Here's my problem.
I've got a certain motherboard that whenever I try to use it makes all the programs I try to open in Windows98 crash. Every time I click on an executable file I get that stupid message: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be terminated blah, blah, blah. I know it has to do with the motherboard because if I take the same HD (Western Digital 8.4 GB) and put it into my other computer which is a QDI Explorer 1 with 64 MB EDO RAM, Pentium MMX 200 @ 213 (don't ask). It works fine. So my question is, any ideas on why the other motherboard does this? I don't know who makes it. There's no FCC ID # (Is that legal?) and when I try to identify it by the BIOS it tells me that's it's made by an unknown company. *sigh* Anyway, any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I have a feeling that Win9x is sensitive to changes in hardware - try reinstalling windows with that motherboard & that may fix it. Alternatively it may be a low power supply - did you only change the mainboard or did you change the hdd between cases?

It could also be a fault on the motherboard - onboard cache, BIOS incompatibility etc or a faulty RAM simm. Could also be a bad processor. The only way to tell is with a lot of time spent swapping components around, logging what you did and didn't do and recording the results. By doing this however, you run the risk of damage to the various modules - RAM, HDD etc either by physical means - poor plugging, foring it in etc or by static electricity.

Looking at all the trouble involved, you may be better off upgrading the motherboard & processor anyway - you should be able to get a good price on a low end Celeron and maybe an Aopen AX6BC mainboard which would fly in comparison.\
