Zero-Footprint PC... Yes/No??

Who thinks <a href="https://www.cybernetman.com/default.cfm?DocId=602" target="_blank">these</a> pc's would be very good?

A laptop without the screen. Probably not easy to upgrade, if at all. Nor would it be too fun to have to work on. Although, I would like to see one up close, you never know, it may not be that bad.

Honestly, I have my serious doubts, but, if they could actually pull it off...It would be perfect for my environment or any one else in the corporate office environment. The space factor is huge. Also, I rarely ever touch the hardware on the 130-150 machines, and when I do it is a mouse or a monitor, never the insides. If I could open it up in the case of a bad HD or a bad NIC(which are usually the only 2 things that fail on a regular basis) it would be very good for an office. Sure wouldn't get one for the house though.

Those are a good idea.

Although like you guys said, being able to get inside of it would be a huge factor.

Also, any adding of components, PCI cards etc. would be a negative side to it.

Although, in a corporate environment, I guess they don't go adding lots of extra hardware.

Good idea, not for my home though. They are actually decently priced though.

for anything approaching a usable system you are looking at $1,300 (with 8 meg onboard video - but do you really need a geForce4 to use Word?). i would rather have a 'small footprint' system and save the extra money for decent video.

I'm looking at these for the tellers to use at the bank I work at. The drive through tellers are especially cramped. They won't need a lot of processing for they do.

2 year warranty...make sure it covers everything. you can buy extended warranties that guarantee over nite replacement. for the application you describe these mite be just the ticket.

Hmmm, might be a little small for me to fit a cold cathode in but I bet I could put a window and with a little adjustment, I imagine I could make the original three part computer system just one part and put a touch pad in it.... bl00 leds everywhere and a nice rheobus would be a great touch... :D

nice except you can't use the pci slot if you have a cd-rom drive in it.

The computer sure looks neat and clean on the lady's nice clean desk - with no cables coming out of the back of it.

Let's see, mouse, video, power, network you would at least need to have out of the back of that thing. Then add to that any thing extra like sound cables, USB, printer, Hotsync cradle, etc etc. MESSY!

I have seen these elsewhere they have desktop "guts" HDD, mem, proc just a saled down MB. they come with CD-ROM and floppy. I agree they would be perfect for corporate env. I work in Gov and it would be nice to be able to put 2 whole PC's in a laptop bag when I go out in the field. I wouldnt recomend for anyone other than casual networked users.

Well, the regular consumer lusers will have a fit, asking where the rest of the computer is, and "what are you trying to pull here, selling me half a computer for full price!".

But would be great at my office where cubicles are bursting at the seams as it is.

Who'da thunk my Commodore Vic20 would be back in style! Think I gonna go to my mums and rummage around for it...
