I for one do NOT understand why KoWind7's post was closed, he said nothing out of line, and I for one agree with him. He was NOT doing the same thing himself. Only stating his opinion, is that now against the WD law??? Hmm....maybe I'll ask the local sherriff what he thinks.

as a moderator you should realize that personal vendetta's and preferences should have nothing to do with any decision you make whether it be to close or delete a topic.
whether your "tired" of such posts does not mean you have free reign over all such topics to do what you wish.

I'm just trying to follow DriverGuy's direction....I really don't like having to deal with some of this stuff anymore than the rest of you....And perhaps my actions wouldn't have been so strong if it hadn't have been for that "tribute" piece that Kowind and others posted here tonight hadn't have happened. That post was the worst violation of Windrivers' rules I've seen here in quite awhile.....Quote:

As has been said many times before...lose the stars and status...then only let the mods give them to people who are truly diserving...
I'll be the first to admit that SOME of the posts were violations, but not all...
I'll even admit that the comments I just quoted were not directed at JUST Jmm, but several other people who have obatined such a status in the very same way...
I guess I never realized how important the stars and status are to some here. I thought most would judge posts on the quality of their advice rather than how many times they've posted. I always saw the stars and titles as harmless fun. But if they a few users this upset, I will reconsider my position in the matter.....Quote:

The stars and status would be fine IF they were earned on merit, not just the number of posts someone has.Quote:

Maybe setup the rating system for people with 1000+ posts...if they keep a 4-5 (or whatever), then they get the status....

I understand. However, as has been discussed before, there is plenty of room for abuse in a public rating system as well. As an example, we all know that Darren is one of the most qualified techs anywhere. We also know that there were a few users here who decided to give him crap, so much in fact, that he resigned as a mod to everyone's loss. Now, imagine one of those users deciding to vote Darren as a 1 instead of a 5 a bunch of times. From then on, Darren would have a lower rating than someone else who hadn't been targeted for the attack. Now that would truly be a tragedy....
If possible with the rating system, we could find some way to make the complainer/praiser give reason for his/her words and vote towards/against a person, it could be set to public or a private comment but at least if they were just pissed and trying to mar someones name they would have to make up a lot of names, ip's, and reasons. Anyone that knows UBB, could this be incorporated?
Yeah, I don't think that a ratings system is a possible way to go. That would increase the foolishness and bull$h!t around here 500%. As for the number of stars and such, if I post a problem and a good solution is given, I don't care how many stars the poster has. I might try Sowulo's solution first, not because he has 10 stars or whatever, but because I've seen he gives quality advice. If JMM proposes a good solution, I'll try it, even if most of his posts or stars were gained in the tech lounge (or so I'm told). What it comes down to is that you can't really take the stars too seriously I guess. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">
Stars?!? This is about the freakin' stars? I say remove them.
*UPDATE* OK, found the post in question. I won't comment on if it should have been closed or not, as it is not up to me. But I am now starting to see what some of the arguing is about. BTW, what happened to Clam's question thread? Has that gone, too?
