What's the deal here? I see a bunch of people with custom avatars, but I don't have the ability to add a custom one for myself. Do I need to have 1000 or more posts or something? If that's the case I should get on it.. I've been registered for almost 3 years and don't even have 100. :)

Well,. you need about 1500 posts, at least 85% helping others in times of dire need.
You also have to have logged about 2,000 hours helping in the chat room (chat and downtime do not count).
You also have to donate at least $500 a year to Windrivers, plus a donation to the "Draggar's financial fund" of at least $2500 is also a big help. :D
Seriously, I think you email Scott (windrivers / driverguy) with your custom avatar.
It can only be 80X80 pixelsin size, and under 7K.
Other than it cannot be offensive etc... I don't think there are any other serious rules about them.

You need to get a better life, my fellow drone. :D
One other general rule of thumb.. you need about 200 posts..

If you need a custom avatar done, just post a request with your prefs and see what happens!
GameGuru, JVAGuy and myself have designed avatars for others in the past, and I'm sure there's more talent out there to help you out if you don't want to draft one up yourself.
