ECD Creator & XP Pro
Here's the problem:
When burning, computer freezes requiring reboot. Problem was not encounted while running under win2000Pro with same setup using EZCD 4.02. The burner's "writing" LED will light up for a period of time and then go out. The disk access LED on the burner will continue to be lit. After a period of time, the computer will freeze, not enabling mouse movement or keyboard commands (it varies from immediately to 2 minutes or so, depending on how active you are in program). This problem was encountered both after a clean install of XP and an upgrade from Win2kPro.
Things I've tried:
1) Reinstall clean XP
2) Install updates from MS (including CD burner update)
3) Install EZ CD 5.02d with XP Patch
4) Try the different ASPI Layer provided at another post in this board.
5) Tried burning with Nero 5.5, didn't work, same problem
6) Tried slowing down the write speed or writing from an .iso file or files from the HDD, didn't work, even at 2x
Right now I've run out of possible solutions. Here's the set up I'm working with:
Current Computer Configuration
Onboard IDE Channel 1:
Master: 40GB WD 7200RPM ATA100
Slave 50X CD ROM
Onboard Ide 2:
Master - Philips CDRW
Slave: Empty
IDE Adapter in PCI Slot:
Channel 1:
Master: 20GB Samsung 5400 ATA66
Slave: ATAPI Zip 100
Running Windows XP Pro
Processor: AMD XP1500
RAM: 256MB Micron DDR
MoBo: Epox 8K7A
Video: ATI All In Wonder 128 Pro, 32MB in AGP 4x mode
Attached Devices:
Scanner: HP 4200C
Printer: HP 952C
Web Cam: Logitech quick cam express
Software Running:
Direct CD
Logitech Mouseware
I appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks,
DW

Either missing or conflicting info here...
Easy CD Creator 4.02 cannot be updated with the 5.02 download. 5.02 only updates 5.0 or higher. Did you buy and install 5.0x inbetween these two steps?
-
Sorry - I did buy 5.x when I bought XP. Another thing that has developed is this:
I switched the CD burner from my other machine into the one described above. (an HP 9350i, 10,4,32x) This burner works fine, no problem in the XP system or the other machine. So, it should lie in the Philips' drive compatibility with XP or vice versa.
-
Have you tried the Phillips burner in the other machine? post your findings, if it worked under 2k, i really dont see why it wouldnt work under XP, also do you have the model number of the CDRW.
Good luck.

When I made the previous post I was in the process of installing the Philips burner in another machine. I've tested it now and it works fine under 98SE. The model number for the philips drive is PCRW 1208.

one thing to check as well is that before u installed EZ CD Creator 5.02 u need to uninstall 4.02 in add/unistall programs. If not it will cause instability with XP

I'd also put the 50X CD-ROM on IDE 2. This has nothing to do with your problem, but from what I understand, it'll slow down your hard drive.

Just a thought but did you download the update for winxp from the roxio website? It might help. Also check out on their site the list of compatible devices for ECD.

Here what I had to do to get Easy CD creator working with no problems on XP
When you install Easy CD Creator perform a custom install and remove 'TAKE TWO and DIRECT CD'options.
Continue with install.
Here's the key....DO NOT restart your system after the install, instead download the XP patch.
Then restart...have not had a problem since I did it this way.
Give it a try and let us know if it worked for you.

Well, quite to the credit of Philip's, they called me today (A saturday even!) and informed me that a firmware update was required to fix my particular problem. This firmware update is available at their website, (www.philips.com). However, if you apply it before authorized from their support, it voids your warranty. :D :D Now all is well and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for the help everyone.

Oh yes, and I changed my drive setup. Current onboard IDE setup is as follows:
IDE1
Master - WD 40GB (boot)
Slave - Samsung 20GB
IDE2
Master - Philips PCRW1208
Slave - 50x CDROM
The setup didn't fix the problem however, but it may have been adding to it.
Thanks again,
