Rebooting frustrations
Greetings,
Just finished putting together a new system and the last problem I have to overcome is random reboots and freezes in Win XP Pro. After disabling auto restart I get the message that NV4_disp.dll is the file causing the problems. Event Viewer says "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0xbfa30598, 0xf3580b1c, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini030602-02.dmp."
Things I have tried to solve the problem already are updating to the latest BIOS, getting all the Windows Updates, getting latest detonator drivers, changing video cards from TNT2 to Geforce 2 MX 400, and format/reinstall windows. Still the reboots continue and always the same file to blame. This one has me stumped, and ideas would be most appreciated.
System includes Abit KG7 Raid with latest BIOS, 1800 Athlon XP, 256 Kingston DDR Ram, Geforce 2 MX 400, Creative Live, 3 com nic, running Win XP Pro.
Thanks in advance.

NV4_disp.dll is definitely a file needed for nvidia. It seems to be a common problem with no absolute fix yet. Check this link, it mentions a few things you can try. Let us know how it goes? I also saw that Detonator versions 27.50 or 27.51 might help.

It is a problem with the 23.11 version of the nvidia drivers, upgrade to the 27's, or downgrade to the 14's and you will be just fine.

I loaded the 21.83 drivers and it seems to have made things a little more stable. Tried running the 27.70 but still had the same problums. Had two BSODs that said "win32k.sys" caused the problum. i don't know if that has anything to do with the original problum or not. Thanks for the input.
