What is the best way of getting rid of messenger. It is annoying the H*** out of me by starting up every time I start Outlook express. I could find no where to remove it in Add/Remove prog or windows setup.

Thanks Mac one less headache
Of course you could have simply gone into Outlook Express/Tools/Options and uncheck the box that says "Automatically log on to Windows Messenger"
as well.
I agree Postal, much less of a headache...
Thanks Mac
much safer way of doing this
Go here <a href="http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/windowstips/story/0,24330,3377879,00.html" target="_blank">TechTV</a>
Basically it says in the run command type "gpedit.msc"
Exit messanger
Start navigating at Computer Configuration. Next, go to Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Messenger, double-click "Do Not Allow Windows Messenger To Be Run," and choose Enable to block Messenger from loading.
Budster that did not work, messenger was tied in with outlook express everytime I checked my mail messenger would attempt to access the internet(software firewall would detect the attempt) This all happened after a update from MS....Big surprise!!!!
Holy carp! Budster! Long time no see! Where the heck ya been, buddy?

What this will actually cause (although it partially works) is that your outlook express will take over a full minute to open after you do this (I did it) it just sits there with the OE splash screen like its trying to do something, and it actually is trying it logs something in the event vewer (some kinda error) sorry dont remember the exact error right now.
