SCANNER & PRINTER PROBLEMS

Hi! I have a Microtek Scanmaker 3800 scanner which I am having problems with.

I use ScanWizard software version 5.76 and when the scanner goes into low power mode I can not get it too resume I always have to restart my computer.

I have a Lexmark Z53 printer which also connects via USB as does my scanner. My printer does not print most of thime even if I restart my PC or reinstall the drivers. As soon as I unplug my scanner everything is fine.

Anybody had any similar issues like this or know how to resolve them.

You didn't mention which version of Windows you're using...

Go here for <a href="http://www.support.microtek.com/~admin/sm3800.html" target="_blank">your ScanMaker 3800</a>. Click on Installation Guide for USB.
I know that a lot of HP's printers & scanners require bi-directional communications...it is possible that you are losing that by daisy chaining your devices together. Do you have another USB port or possibly hooking your printer up to your parallel port? Just a suggestion...let us know how it goes...Good Luck!

Hi! I am using Windows XP Home. My printer does require bidirectional support but I have disabled this so do u think I am better hocking my printer upto a parralel port.

When I connrct my printer at the same time on 2 USB ports the printer does not work nut as soon I unplug my Scanner printer works fine.

Thanks for the links I cna't use the drivers for my lexmark from the link becaue they are win9x and ME drivers and I am using XP. Also I already have XP drivers installed.

What does the event log have to say?

The Event just showns the errors that I had when I was trying to print nothing else.

I would go with parallel printing with the Lexmark. I personally disdain on-board USB and disable it on every machine I work on. I recommend a PCI Firewire/USB card (more power). My guess is the power to the scanner from the USB port is not sufficient enough to maintain a constant powered connection.

Hi! I have connected my printer via paralel. I also have a USB webcam and when I conect my scanner and webcam together my system gets very slow and they don't seem to get on very well when they are both connected.

I have checked my root hub in device and how much power each device is useing and it shows the webcam is 500mA and my scanner is using 100mA and this is when it is low power mode it uses more when it is active.

Looking through the troubleshooting section it suggested that if the devices use a lot of power it is better to use a powered USB hub as well.

Do you think using a powered USB hub will be better and resolve power problems?.

I never had any problems when I used to use ME all these problem,s just occur in XP.
