windows XP AND PARTITION MAGIC 7 DISASTER

Here's one for you, 2 x 40 gig maxtors running on a promise raid controller, (mirrored). I bought
PM7 and tried to partition disc, midway got error
and system stopped.
error 1516 partition improperly dismounted, followed by, error 1555 internal file number does not match position,(PM7 ERROR CODES), REBOOTED WITH PM7 EMERGENCY FLOPPIES, same error no fix offered, tried maxtor utilities still no joy, removed raid card, deleted and formated one disc no problems, 2 disc in mirror was hoping to recover data.
Windows sees drive in dos screen on boot up but not in windows, PM7 WILL SEE DISC, SO WILL MAXTOR DIAG, but no fix's offered, was hoping to recover data but can't because only utilities see disc not windows, any ideas ? or shall I just reformat and re-install?
