I really want to make a website but have no clue what to make it about...........I need ideas please! What kinds of websites are people looking for these days? Anything in particular? Or do I just sound like a complete fool for even asking this? Keep in mind that my web design skills are not exactly par with the course so any help would also greatly be appreciated. Thanks again guys!
I would suggest doing a website on something that interests you and/or something you know a lot about. Otherwise you'll quickly get bored of it and the site will become neglected and outdated.
I have to agree with the above post. Unless you do something that interests you, you will not feel like working on it. Hobbies are good for websites. If you can do it, you do a online game, although this is a lot of work. If your looking to make money, it will take a lot of work, so that is something to think about also. You might want to take a business aproach to it and decide on how you are going to generate revenue then design the site around that.
Just some thoughts to think about.
thanx very much guys. sounds good but here's the one remaining issue.....the domain name i have registered is nj-busted.com. now i registered this name w/ a motive behind it which i will not go into but i guess the site would have to at least somewhat revolve around that name no? now do u have any ideas for me based on that new tid-bit of info? thanks again!

Amazon.com doesn't have anything to do with the Amazon river but look at how big they have gotten. And what exactly is a google or a yahoo? This subject has been brought up at sitepoint.com in their forums a lot. More people say it is about the branding of the name, not the name itself.
Now as to an idea for nj-busted.com the first thing that comes to mind is a website for New Jersey about stupid criminals or something like that. Maybe do a website about how people found their significate others cheating and they can share stories. For some reason the nj has be stuck on New Jersey. If I can think of other things I can post them if you wish.

haha, actually, your idea about the whole catching people cheating thing was right on the same page as my original idea to start this web site. that's kinda funny. anyway, yeh please post your ideas! and your right; i hear that about yahoo and google and amazon and what not. that makes sense. thanks again for your thoughts.
Just to build on the first idea. Do a site for NJ about criminals. Maybe do some research and do from like the 1900's (or however far back you can get) to present day about the criminals in NJ. You can have a stupid criminal of the day/week/month. Have a section setup so people can check on pediphiles living in their area. I know Florida has a website you can go to get the info on them for Florida, not sure if New Jersey has the same thing or not. You can have criminals broken into different types, ie. bank robbers / serial killers / breaking and entry / etc... You might be able to get stats so people can the criminal stats from 20 years ago compared to now. See if you can get video footage (like the use on the TV shows) and have people d/l videos so they can watch them. Maybe if you had a video camera you can take a drive and film all the stupid drivers there are out ther. Not sure what type of legal cautions you would have to take. This kinda sounds like fun, maybe I'll do one for Florida when I get done with my current list.
When I first started creating a web site I based it on things that interested me, not other people. As other people on this list have already mentioned, if you base it on your own interests you are more likely to be enthusiastic as time goes by. Things that you like will undoubtedly be in common with other people of your age group. If you are enthusiastic about your subject, it will rub off on your site, and get peoples attention. Have a look in your history folder, which subjects have you been looking up recently. Base it on that!
