Does anybody know of a way to stop these temp files from appearing, or least direct them to the temporary directory on the local drive?

Hi There,
There is a good article Q89247
It's an article specific to Word'97 but Word hasn't changed the way in which it creates and uses temporary files since the release of Word 2.0
I've personally supported Word since the yee oldey days of Word for DOS and have never seen any information to suggest that there is a way to alter the functionality of the aplication, Microsoft internal or otherwise.
I hope this helps! ;)
Not really. ;) I was aware of that (and other) MSKB articles on the subject. I now realize and understand that these files are meant to lock the file when another user has it open. Knowing the users in my office, this is a good thing since everyone is always editing the same 3 or 4 files on the network. AutoCAD has a similar feature, but we have it turned off since Novell Netware has file locking built in. So on our network, this feature of Word doesn't serve much purpose. But it does tell you who has the file open for the last week when you need to edit it.Quote:
