for hooking a home LAN to the NET for online gaming.
What's your opinion????
I have a customer who has 3 PCs and their kids want to play online, q3 and the such. I need something REALLY EASY!!!
They didn't even know how to change the graphics settings in their games.
They drop the disk in, if it runs, they play it. It all needs to be that easy.
lol, and don't tell me that in a perfect world Windows ICS should work fine...

Plus ist FREE (as is beer) for upto five users.
I'm using it atm.. and it took 2.5 mins to setup.. :)
You can't get much simpler than that..
It also does a whole host of other things (E-mail, Web Serving, etc etc) and its designed to let www.grisoft.com (AVG anti virus another free {as in beer} product) plug into as a module.
Give it a go...
or you can go for (if you have the spare machine) e-smith.
e-smith is a pure gateway linux distro.
Don't be scared by the "Linux" name.. this one is VERY VERY easy to setup.

If you want the EASIEST NAT to set up for these people, have them get a Linksys Cable/DSL router (or any other name brand that is easier to set up)....
It was a snap to set up. It works the best for online gaming also (but for Quake 3, they have to change their command line to start the game in the short cut,.... it is a Quake 3 thing, not a Linksys thing)
Agree with Taz, I have a LinkSys 4 port router, and I haven't had a problem playing any games online thru it....Q3, C&C....plus it acts as a hardware firewall.
The thing with a cable/dsl router.... it acts as if it is a computer. If you run a NAT program through one computer, it has to have two network cards and it has to have some horse power to it.
