virus?

hi,got a pc with virus.when it boots up it gives one beep which is good.then after 1 sec.it gives another beep.this beep
shows this c:\kxr all with variuos characters its listed at least 4 times.i got the pc with no no sound video or modem.all of the games/programs are gone ie norton's sys works.tried symantec's latest to no avail.

Sounds like a bad one, but what exactly is the question?

From what I gather, if applications have been deleted, the only course of action would be to format and re-install, unless the PC had been previously "ghosted".

try booting with a floppy and check the contents of the 'config.sys' and 'autoexec.bat' files on the C drive.

Can you try to boot with Norton's emergency floppys? You should be able to install Norton on another computer and create the emergency repair disks and use them on the damaged computer.

thanks for the replies.couldn't find a direct cure through symantec.so i started from scratch.
