:) I just RMA'd the second board in a month, because the plug on the mother board for the CPU fan lost power.
Two may not seem high, except I only Custom build a few systems a month.
They were both different brands.
Has anyone else had a problem like this.
I've noticed that alot of high end CPU fans get their power directly from the power supply. Maybe there is a good reason for that.
I think its due to the fact that some cpu fans pull a larger current off the board which leads to shorting or overloading the board, I have only seen it once, and the board didnt last much longer after that :( If the board was under warrenty, I would have RMA'd it myself, Also, what model CPU fan was it you were using?

Unbranded Generic Fans, but they were rated higher than the CPU's I put them on.
those generic fans may have been the issue, I would just use cooler master or another well known manutfacture from now on (i dont like using unbranded things especially when it comes to cooling.)

The Same thing happened to me. I had two fan sockets in my motherboard, and I found out he HARD way that neither of them worked after about a week. When I looked at my cpu temp and it said 152 degrees I thought something was wrong with the meter. Then strange error messages started happening to my machine.
I took it into a tech and he discovered that neither of my fan sockets worked. Thereafter he used an adapter that sticks into the CDROM drive and the plugs into the fan. Haven't had a problem since.
I thought my mobo was cheap but evidently this happens quite a lot.
