i have an MSI 850 Pro (MS-6339) Mainboard that's running an ATA 100 hard drive. my question is, if i add a ATA 133 HDD to run master to the ATA 100, will both drives default to 100? will a controller card enable 133 for the master and 100 for the slave? also, is there a big difference between ATA 133 and 100?
Not really but ATA133 allows you to break the 137Gig limit.
another question, if i use an ATA 133 controller card on my 100mhz bus motherboard, will it be able to take advantage of the ATA 133 or does my motherboard have to have a bus speed of 133mhz too?:confused:

I've got Promise TX2 Ultra133 ATA controller cards in both my older BX motherboarded computers (one is an ASUS P2B-F and the other is an ASUS P2B-D) and have seen (and proven with SiSoft's Sandra) a big increase in speed over my old ATA66 drives. The point is that a controller card gets around the motherboard chipset limitations.
