Any tips on how to? I tried setting one up the other night and my wifes cousin could not get in.... it kept saying "Connecting" on his end.
Ok.... I ran up a Q3 server and he could play no problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ig you have a router, make sure you set it up to allow UT traffic both in and out. Same goes with a firewall. Also, any mods you have installed....make sure he has also as it slow as balls to transfer them via UT auto dwnload
The problems were as follows....
1) The computer I was setting it up on was not behind a router, just straight up to my switch that is hooked to the modem.
2) The firewall software I have (Zone Alarm Pro) was turned off.
3) It was just plain vanilla deathmatch
Does that help any?
Does your switch have a built in firewall? If so then you must configure to allow that traffic. If that doesnt work then remove the firewall from startup (it will lock UT if you try to run a network while ZA is on)
Plain ol' switch
I turn of Zone Alarm and it still does it.
Should I uninstall Zone Alarm?
I know I'm gonna get :flame: for this, but ZA is a hunk of crap, always mucks my connections up majorly so that games dont work properly (everything else works fine). Uninstalling doesnt seem to help.Quote:

What I would now recommend is checking to ensure that you BOTH have the 4.36 patch and if that dont work, pull the switch outta the picture
Pull the SWITCH out?? :flame: There you go...Quote:

The switch would not make the differance because through that same switch I can set up a Quake 3 server and play them on it.
Zone Alarm has been pissing me off lately so its days are numbered.
I've found that with ZA, if you go and add the program first *before* you start the game, it works much better than when it tries to ask you when you connect. Instant lock-up with UT, as RD said.
Unfortunately, I have nothing relevant to add about the UT server, as my luck with setting one up has generally been crap.

:flame: to Zone Alarm PRO
I uninstalled ZA Pro and when I last tried my friend said it was downloading something on his side and the only thing I have added has been Bonus Packs 1 through 4 and I know he has a plain ol install of UT.
You do realize that the packs do add maps and skins? You sure you weren't using an expansion pack map?
Standard map was tested with and I was using a standard skin.Quote:

Tell him to get the bonus packs just for ****s and giggles, it should have added all of the info about the files into your server config so that it would auto download though...Quote:
