Would someone be able to explain to me how I can use Bulletproof FTP through my Linksys router? A friend and I would like to be able to exchange files through ftp, but both of us have Linksys routers, and we're not too sure how to configure everything.
Any help would be appreciated.

Click Forewarding tab.
Port forwarding sets up public services on your network. When users from the
Internet make certain requests of your network, the router will forward those
requests to the appropriate computer. The router's DHCP function must be
disabled to use Forwarding.
Forwarding is generally used to set up a webserver, ftp server, or e-mail server
on your network. To add a server using Forwarding:
1. Enter the port number used by the server. On the same line, enter the IP
Address of the server that you want the Internet users to be able to access.
2. Configure as many entries as you would like until all of the link entries
are filled.
3. Click the Apply to save the settings.
(Port 21 is the FTP port.)

Windows 2000 Server
Serv-U ftp server
BEFSR41 router
When I was using Serv-U for my ftp server, it seems that I was getting hit with many viruses & other nasty infections. Since I disabled the ftp server, no more viral infections or trojans. Also, when I used Windows 2000 Server, I was only able to access the ftp server through DOS. Any ftp client I tried wouldn't work.
I would prefer to use Windows 2000 Server's IIS for the ftp server instead of Serv-U. Is there a walk-through or set of instructions that I could use as a referrence?
Also, what can I do to best protect myself against any future infestations once the ftp server goes online again?
One thing to keep in mind is that yes you only have to forward port 21 if you are using a pasiv server. If the server is set to port then you need to open 20 as well. One way you could prevent unwanted access is first implement a password only infrastructure and turn off anonymous access. If you need/want anonymous access then try changing the port to say port 31 instead of 21 and just instruct all users to use port 31.
Port 21 was the only one opened & I did switch from anonymous access to user/password only. Here's the weird part. There were no viruses or trojans ever found on the ftp server computer but there were always viruses & trojans found on the next computer. However, after killing the ftp connection, no more viruses.

For the router, I have port 21 opened on UDp & TCP which is only assigned to the server which is connected with a statically assigned i.p.
