ASUS Mobo...any good?

I can get this motherboard for a pretty good price with a P4 2.3 GHZ....

Has anyone had experience with this mobo?

I don't have any experience with their newer boards, but I'm still running an Asus PII board, it's one of the fastest posting boards I've ever seen. It's also outstanding at resource allocation, I've got all the PCI slots filled and both USB ports being used and have never had a hardware problem with it.

In my opinion, if it says ASUS on it, it's a good board and you can't go wrong by buying one.

I've had three ASUS motherboards, The PIIB-DS, the A7V-133, and the A7V333.

The P2B-DS, holy cow. GREAT board. I'd still be running it if I hadn't wanted a faster CPU (back when the AMD 1.4 was just released). I settled on the 1.33Ghz and the A7V-133.

Anyway, I've had NO problems with either of them, they're both fast and just...stable as hell.

The A7V-333 is great too, though I'm having some problems with XP and an ATI 8500LE (driver issue) which happens to be on this board. As soon as things get cleared up, I can give you a better analysis of this one. =)

Anyway, I'd have to agree with the guy above me, if it says "ASUS" on the board, it's as good as gold.

Beware the Asus "EZ Plug"

Though generally I like Asus boards.... I don't like this.....

Oh does it now?!....it also increases my rma's of P4 chips & asus boards, I guess pulling the extra current through the board isn't very helpful.... not to say it doen't work, it does but..... well you can figure that out.

For now I'm still buying P4 compatible p/s..... until they refine it a bit.....

I've owned several ASUS boards, Love ehm to death. I'll only look away from them if they don't have a board for my needs.

I have the same board. I also use the EZ plug and ahve hot had any hard ware problems. I would advise going to SIS to get hardware drivers Asus is a little slow in updateing them

I bought the P4S533 earlier this year. I was having some problems with the VIA chipset and GeForce 4 Ti4200 card, so I decided to give the SIS chipset a try.

Good solid board IMHO. But like confus-ed said, be sure to use a good powersuppy and don't depend on the EZ Plug.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. I have a P4T (basically the same board, just uses Rambus instead of DDR ram). I love it. It does post amazingly fast. If I don't turn my monitor on before I turn my machine on, I'll be at the 2k loading screen when my monitor finally shows a picture. :)

I actually got that exact same board as a used item from a person who wanted amd instead with a P4 1.6a and 256mb ddr pc 2100 generic ram for $300.00 canadian.

That was a good deal. I put it in my brother's system as a birthday present upgrade this past Canadian thanksgiving.

I wasn't always an sis fan, but I decided to give this a chance. It worked nicely. Had to reinstall win98se with the proper sis drivers. The only thing I didn't like about this board was the onboard sis sound. No matter what I tried to do to get win98se to work with the sound, nothing worked right. So I disabled the onboard sound and put in a spare sound blaster pci 128 sound card instead. Works good. My 2nd oldest brother loves it. Makes me happy.
