You need a minimum of two partitions
An ME disk
An XP disk
On the the c: or first partition install ME
on the d: or 2nd parititoin install xp
XP will pick up the me install and manage the dual boot for you (unless your name is shamus...:p )
Put the data that is common to both on a 3rd partititon....
But remember you wil have to install all your software twice, once for ME and again for XP, so make sure that your partitions are big enough to handle the restore files, the swap files and the proggies.
Partittioning this way also means that if you toast an os, it is relatively easy to reinstall.
yep i understand the partition part. just 2 more things i need to clarify
- how does xp manage the dual boot? does it give me a menu to choose which to boot or..?
- if i put xp on c:, me on d:, does that mean i'll install xp software on c:, me software on d:?
XP by default offers you 30 secs in which to choose an os and then loads the default os (normally xp). You can set these defaults.
As for putting ME on D:... never done it that way round, but yes you would have to watch which proggie installed where!
k i got it. big thx for helping! :D
