Hi....iam installing a small network in a house and i would like some info on wiring. The network will use four of the eight wires in the CAT5 and they want to use the other four for two phones. They want two seperate phone lines in the house. I think there gonna use a FAX. My question is is there a standered that i should follow? Certin colors for the network and certin colors for the phone. If you could post some links and point me in the right direction.

Run separate lines for everything. You'll get interference any other way. You'll end up with garbled faxes, corrupted network data, and some annoying background noises on your phoneline.

You will never get it all to work properly over the same line.

Ok, you should actualy run 2 seperate wires, one for your phone, one for your ethernet. The ehternet cable is designed so that it will shield itself, when you add the phone signal there, it will cause interferance, degraded speeds and cross talk.

now for the ethernet it should be

1 White/orange
2 Orange
3 White/green
4 Blue
5 White/Blue
6 Green
7 White/brown
8 Brown

Pair 1&2 and 3&6 get used.

I'd recommend to do the job properly, and run 2 speperate wires

I agree with both of the above, run separate wires for phone and data. You can even use CAT5 for phone, so you get 4 pairs of wires and it's relatively cheap.

Another option is wireless. Unless you need 100Mb ethernet for large file transfers, wireless is a reasonable alternative.

silencio has a good point. Wireless is probably the easiest/ quickest way to go.
