Try Diskeeper 7.0 . It will help with the problem that xp defrag has with not defraging running applications. hope it helps
If you have a system good enough to run xp, then you need a bigger hard drive.... for xp to run good it uses a pretty large paging file; with the paging file, programs, and windows itself that system is just going to crash and crash and crash.....do yourself a favor and get a bigger hard drive or downgrade your pc
Kineda the page file is set by the amount of ram the box has. A 3gb hard drive is plenty for XP. I keep mine on its own partition.
Camino, you may want to think about not using system restore.... it takes up just too much space. How much ram do you have?
We shut off system restore andall the files dissapeared, end user is happy, that makes me happy. It's on the 3gb partition just to get a feel for the OS and for truobleshooting purposes

Schedule a boot-time defrag to get those locked files.
Default XP defrag has no boot-time defrag option so you might try Raxco PerfectDisk ( I prefer ) or Executive Software Diskeeper.
XP default defrag is a stripped down Diskeeper MMC snap-in
