Hmmm.... then why didn't you check Fujitsu?Quote:

Used them all, and have had all fail, and have had all kick butt. With the exception of IBM, just haven't used 'em as they don't even use them in their Netvista's.
Ive got 2 IBM Deskstars that ive been running in Raid 0 for over 2 years now and they have run flawlessley. (Knock on Wood) However, I would probably choose WesternDigital SE with the 8mb cache nowadays
i went with IBM. every drive is going to have problems, but i've had less problems with IBM and Seagate. I've had more problems with Western Digital and Maxtor. i've also had really really good luck with Fujitsu. i've just started using Samsung drives, so i can't really form and option yet
The best thing about most of these brands is that if you suspect dirty heads, you can open the case and clean them off with the damp towel.
:D
Been using four IBM Deskstar drives as MP3 and FTP storage for over four years, running 24/7 never had as much as a blip of trouble.
On the other hand, I've RMA'd 35 Western Digital units this year alone. I used to love the old WD, but something happened the past couple years.
Has Seagate EVER made a bad drive?
Fujitsu gives me nothing but trouble.
WD has gotten its head pointed the right way lately (IE: not in its arse anymore)
Maxtor has given me expected failure rates (except the 4.3 and 6.4 series....those were soft as jello)
Samsung drives are BULLETPROOF....ok, maybe not, but from personal experience I can say they're fireproof....truely the most reliable drives I've ever seen, just not tops on performance.
...but I still say Seagate SCSI is THE way to go.
well I have used all the hdd lsited above, I have a 120 gb IBM drive still running after 1 and a half years. I have a 30 gb IBM running in my mac been there for a year. I have a maxter in 4 of my systems running fin for the past 3 - 4 years, I have 3 Seagate HDD been using them in 3 of my systems for the past 3-4 years...
Ive had bad hdd on all ..
I dont trust any hard drive, but you gotta use them... I cant wait until they get them flash hdd things ehhe... like a compact flash type hdd that would be sweet no noise ahhh
I'm lucky with maxtor and seagate.
I have not been lucky with the IBMs but my 60gb Maxtor Drive has been running pretty good for the last 10 months.
for all of the above reasons. aye, buying the rite hard drive is a bit of a lottery, isn't it?Quote:

Had bad ones from all of the above, and have ones from all of the above that work well.... As was stated above, it is like a lottery. I happen to like the WD 8 meg cache drives currently... But I will wait to see the reliability factor....
I've had bad luck with WD in the past (<20gb) but as of late I've been pretty lucky, now as for maxtor, never seen a dead one. To me they're like the giant squid, they must be out there somewhere, I just dont have much proof
