I think NooNoo has a viable suggestion, as far as running the repair afterwards. If you have an extra HD and a desktop to test it on, why not try partitioning the drive, install XP, then 2k, then try the XP repair? This should only take a couple of hours, and you can do it during the evening TV shows. I think knowing ahead of time exactly what to expect is important here. If it turns out that you blow up the test PC, at least you didn't blow up the laptops OS load!!!
