Well, I'm ordering it today from Newegg. The Abit IT7 MAX2 V 2.0. This is the sweetest motherboard I'll have as of yet and it's going to be coupled with a P4 2.66ghz which I'm ordering with it as well.

I've always noticed most people don't recommend getting on-board LAN and audio, especially RealTek. Is that still the case?

I've spent far too many hours just trying to get Abit boards with high quality components (nothing cheap) to run stable. No more Abit boards for me, no matter how sweet they look.

I'm not sure why realtek gets such a bad rep. I've fitted tons of the 8139 and they have all worked great. the board I have now has a realtek onboard NIC and it too works like a champ.Quote:

I've used Abit boards numerous times without a problem. These were reviewed by some pretty big sites to be some kick azz boards too so I'm not too worried. The Giga-byte (GA-7VAXP Ultra) that I have now has on board NIC and on board 6 channel AC97 audio and I'm quite surprised by the performance of both. I actually got rid of my SB Live Platinum 5.1 when I upgraded and DVDs, MP3s, games; the whole nine yards sound quite similar and some better. I've found one negative and that with Unreal 2... I didn't really like the game anyhow so I didn't play it long.
the kt7 and kg7 boards I had also won all those awards (the retail boxes told me so) yet there is huge FAQS specifically dealing with the problems of these boards and a usenet search on groups.google.com for "KG7 problems" turned up 8,370 threads.Quote:

That's wierd. I had a couple KT7's that I loved more than any other boards I've had. They worked like a champ and had a lot of options and a great bios.

I've come to the conclusion that every mobo manufacture makes some crap in every line and model of mobos.
I've also come to the conclusion that those crappy mobos from even the best manufactures are destined to find their way into my hands. :flame: :mad:
so I may as well just buy PC Chips right off the bat and cut out the expensive middle man :D

Yea, I was looking at the P4PE and an MSI with the SIS 655 but finally decided on the Abit. Sure, it's $165 but, if I finally make my self realize that I don't have to upgrade every 3 months, this comboed with the 2.66 oughta last me a while :DQuote:
