Burners Sony or LG?
Hi guys,
Brand wise on CDR-RW drives. which one's better Sony 48-12-48 or LG 24-10-40?
I've included the speeds, just so as you might have first hand experiences with these drives, but I'm asking more of the brand and review on these specific drives
thanks

Sony make 'quality' stuff .... LG make 'budget' stuff.
But Sony don't release revised firmware for their burners, LG have more firmwares than I have odd socks ! :D
Depends what you are trying to do, if you just want to write any old disk the Sony unit looks the winner by its rated speeds, but if you want to copy 'difficult' stuff like games I'd be getting an LG.
Try this link to Clone CD supported writers.
Clone CD is a CD duplication tool, if you didn't already know, there are many others but that page will give you lots of info on any burner that's tricky to find elsewhere .... You want to see a little symbol telling you 'correct EFM encoding' that's the one for all these copy protection systems that software vendors use to prevent you making legitimate backup copies of games......  :D :D :D

i use plextor and it works great, plus timely firmware, and lg makes budget stuff but is good
Why are u going for a slow 24x, nowadays the prices are pretty similar for high speed rw's

Cd Burner
Hi dirkpitt,
Here's a good idea if considering a Sony drive. The latest ones (48 speed and above) are made by Lite-on. I found a site via The Firmware Pages that posts a firmware update to the Sony 48 speed drives that will convert it to a 52 speed! I used it on my drive and it works great.
Sony/Lite-on Firmware upgrade
Sony charge a premium for the 52 speed version - somewhere in the region of £15.
Hope this is of some use!!

I have a Sony burner that is 48x40x12 and it works GREAT!
Not a problem with it at all. works with Clony CD and Nero, and others too. I got it online and saved some bucks, $60.00 total. Took a week to get here.
Highly Recommended.
