ATI all in WONDER pro 9700 and ASUS P4G8X Deluxe MB

I am trying to install an ATI AIW 9700 pro to a P4G8X Asus MB.
I cannot get to aboot up the machine shuts down almost immediately after starting. If I disconnect ths power supply to the card it will start up but I get a continuos beeping. I have installed the card on Abit KG7 raid board and get a total boot and into winme. I have tried different power connectors and have a Gforce 3 card running on the MB now. So it must be a conflict in the MB setting and the card? If anyone has experianced this problem and got by it or has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated. i am running an asus P4G8X deluxe MB with P4 2.53 antec 1080 AMG performance + case w/430W true power supply 1028 MB crucial 2700 Ram and 160GB WD HD.

Try going into biois and turning the agp down to 2x

I do not know too much about the P4G8X, but in the BIOS, is there a way to increase/decrease the memory clock speed? I had a close situation to what you are having with a 9700 Pro and an AMD chipset.

What I had to do was use the jumper setting instead of softmenu to force the board to stay at 133mhz. I could only get it up to about 120 or so before it would freeze on POST using the softmenu. That was a while back and have not had any problems as a result of the jumper.

Thanks for your help. I have since flashed a new bios V 1004g and have tried to install at 1x with no success. I will have to check the memory clock speed. Without the power conection it beeps continuously but screen comes up with red line telling me I must connect power to card so the card must be working somewhat. The MB has a safty for AGP cards over 1.5v that will not let the machine start if the card is over 1.5 v.
I don't know if that might be a problem. Does anyone out there have this card running on this MB? Aagain any help will be greatly appreciated. As for now I am back to my old G Force 3 in this s/u and the 9700 in my abit with AMD 1700+.

What you are experiencing is a very common issue with that MB/Vid card combo. I have found the following possible solutions......

Enabling USWC in the BIOS

I don't have an answer for you but I can say that particular card requires additional power beyond that produced by the motherboard, so you need that 'extra' power connection straight to a 12v supply out of the psu....

It seems that ATI and INTEL have some work to do, the other day some one came into the chat room with the same problem. Apparently because the operators at the time couldn't magically fix it in chat, the guest started on the insults. Just before he was kicked out, he called everyone Aussies... :confused: :confused: :confused: Canadians, American where in there at the time... and when did being an Aussie become such a bad thing? :D :D

I just want to let you know I used this set up and got it to boot.
You can try these setting in bios:

Advanced:
agp/pci freq: 67.26/33/63
agp voltage: 1.6

Advanced Chipset:

Mem turbo: enabled
AGP aperature: 128mb
video mem: USWC

try those...it has given the majority of us some success...in addition to fast write off and 4x agp
That is the good news the bad news was everything I tried to do to further set up the card got me the blue screen. I have sinced set tjat card up in my Abit raid board with a 350 W power supply and 1700+ amd cpu and after fooling around a lot have it up and running, I am going to wait to put it back in the asus will keep in touch to see if anyone has any new ideas or when one or the other companys release new drivers or bios updates and I have the time again I will give it another try.
