ASUS A7N266 On speed?

Using an Asus A7N266-VM with Athlon 1700xp, 768 mb DDR, with 32mb shared for the video, Win Me.
The problem is, that more often than not the computer goes into hyper-speed mode where it seems to be running at 4000mhz. Even the time and date moves ahead, which is really weird.When online, any time dated page won't load,i believe because the system clock has moved ahead so far.
When i am not online, the speed of the computer is so fast, i think something will start to fry. One minute it is 10pm the next it's1am the next day.
all of the settings in the bios are correct, including the setting for the cpu.Anyone ever hear of this happening before?
