Ok, I have this stupid HP Pavilion P4 1.6, TNT2 M64, 512MB DDR in the shop...won't boot. No display whatsoever. The video card is good, as I have it running in a spare system now. I have no clue where else to look...the only other thing I can think is a bad proc...but this system has been running fine for 2 years. Any suggestions?
You didn't mention which Pavilion model you have. Go here and select your Pavilion model. There are a couple to choose from. :D
There might be drivers, BIOS upgrades, manuals, etc. available.
Drivers and BIOS upgrades are useless, as the system will not boot. For reference, however, the model is a 750nQuote:

Yah, dip switches... was the bios passworded? If so HP's have a bank of dipswitches for removing it, leave them in the wrong position and no workeee - also get user dead to rights on trying to remove admin passwords :D
Hmmm...that's a possibility, but this is a private machine - my boss's. He said his wife tried to uninstall AOHell and when it told her to reboot, it didn't work anymore.Quote:

Do you hear any beeps at all during power up?
Can you boot from a floppy during power up?
I take it you can't enter the BIOS at all. When the blue HP Logo screen appears, press the F1 key on the keyboard to enter the HP BIOS Setup menu.
Go here for the parts breakdown for your Pavilion. Click on List All Parts...unfortunately, it doesn't list your MoBo or power supply.
Just as an FYI, Pavilion 750n Product Specs.
Just a couple suggestions...sorry I couldn't help out more.
One more thing:
Use the following steps to start Windows XP in Safe Mode when the computer is already off:
Turn on the computer.
Press the F8 key repeatedly when the first screen appears.
From the Windows Start-up menu, select Safe Mode and press ENTER
When the Windows XP desktop appears, Safe Mode is displayed in the four corners of the screen and the desktop will probably look much worse due to the reduced colors.

The fans turn and a couple of lights blink...also the video card is not bad b/c I have checked it in a spare system. I can't even get to the post screen, let alone the boot menu. I'll worry about safe mode when I get something, anything to come up on the display.
Noo - checked for DIP switches - I don't even see a clear CMOS jumper, at least not right off the bat. The board is stamped as a P4B266-L, which I thought was weird, b/c I thought HP used crapware usually...anyway, it looks like a runt P4B...only 3 pci slots, and it has the spot for an expansion card or whatever it is...Also did some research on chernobyl...everything I have seen says that chernobyl does not affect nt-based os'es...they were running XP (home, I assume)...still no headway.
well, as a last resort, unplug the machine and remove the mb battery for a while..see if a reset to the cmos will work.
