I think he did, I mean why risk it. He has proven to be a great hitter! IF he did it on pourpose he could lose so much.
Does anyone even care about baseball and these buttheads anymore?

I used to be a big baseball fan. But then they walked out several years ago and I haven't let them back in. I used to really admire Mark McGwire until it came out that he used "booster juice." Now, this with Sammy is just too much. Both of their career homerun totals are now subject to guessing. They used to be two of the most admired guys playing. As for Sammy grabbing the "wrong" bat, I don't buy...I don't believe anything he says now.
It is a truly sad statement of the status of baseball.
Ok...so he knew which bat it was during practice...how come during a major league game, he didn't make a concerted effort to ensure he had a legal bat??? Sounds like a BS excuse. Of course the team is behind him, so is the coach. Without him in the lineup they stand a chance of losing some games.Quote:

Suspension, fine him, take 50 HR's off of his record, then let him get back in the game. He won't make this mistake again!
as much effort as players put into their hitting, i find it impossible that a baseball player can just "grab the wrong bat". they have their own personalized bats they use. Edgar Martinez carries like 15 bats with him, a different bat for a different style pitcher. you're not going to just grab one from the pile like that. with maybe the exception of breaking a bat fouling off a pitch
personally, now i totally doubt his homerun numbers over the past few years. how long has he been doing?
Bah!! I too hate baseball. Ever since the Strike Ive hated it. I mean. these clowns make millions of dollars a year and go on strike cause they dont get enough?! Bah!!! With the kinda money they make, I wanna see games in the pooring rain, hail, the worst thunderstorm you can imagine!! I want landmines placed out in the outfield!!! Griffy dropes back to catch the fly ball.. *BOOOOM!!!* Looks like Griffys Hurt!! LOL.. Ok so I stole that last bit from George Carlin!

I'm a bit disappointed in Sammy personally.
As for the home runs...the opinions on what if any advantage corked bats offer vary widely. If you watch how deep Sammy's homer's go, you'll see that even if he has been corking it wouldn't matter much. The vast majority would still have been deep homers without any advantage from a corked bat.
I agree with you and others with similar comments. I was not able to give up baseball entirely, so I switched to following minor league baseball. If you have not tried it, check it out sometime.Quote:

I haven't been to a game this year because Fenway Park tickets are refriggindiculously priced. The average ticket price is over $20 more than the average ticket price at the next stadium below it! I still love baseball. If they went on strike this year, I was done with them. It was football and minor league baseball from here on out. As for Sammy. I've lost all respect for him. Wrong bat? You shouldn't even have a corked bat in the dugout to accidentally grab!
The more I think about this the more I think, that bat is his what he does and he is very good at it, he knows it well. I know computers well and some other AV equipment. I over time working with HD and other stuff like it, can tell if something is off, the sound a HD makes, and time I am seeing the windows screen to boot. My point is he had to notice someting wasn't right. and The bat was there to hit the ball farther for his fans, I think he wanted to contune this, but not only for his fans but his sponsers like pepsi (who have a add campain over how far he hits) and himself. But over all of these reasons next week will it realy matter? I hope not.
Shouldn't baseball be more worried about how guys like \barry bonds, and sammy have managed to put on so much muscle so late in their careers . . . if their not on steroids then they are definately on HGH or something. Sosa's managed to put on like 40lbs of muscle since he came into the league, and his hat size has gotten bigger. . . . look at his head earlier in his career then look at his head now. . . . . you don't increase your hat size by lifting weights in the gym. . .. . same with barry.
The funniest thing is that there's no proof that corking a bat even helps you hit the ball further. The only advantage is that the bat becomes lighter. Solution? Use a lighter bat stupid!
I don't think the cork itself makes the ball go furthur, but what is does do if offer nearly the same density as a heavier bat. . . . the ball probably goes no furthur with a 34 ounce bat that's been corked vs a 34 ounce bat that hasn't been corked . . . the advantage is that 34 ounce bat is now 32 to 32.5 ounces light. . . . and I'd be willing to bet that if you put the corked 34 ounce bat (that weighs 32 - 32.5 ounces) up against a true 32 ounce bat that the corked bat would hit the ball furthur . . . .Quote:

so it makes some sense because if it's lighter it allows the batter to generate more speed in his swing which definately factors into the power equation. . . . . .
to me it's kinda like the graphite / titanium tennis rackets. . . . the materials themselves don't make the ball hit harder or truer, but by being lighter yet still solid and balanced, they allow the player to generate more speed through the hitting zone and that DOES translate to power.
I don't think that the density of the cork can compensate with the density of the wood though. The cork would be more porous I would think.
