I plan on replacing my ASUS K7M motherboard, Athlon 700 Mhz CPU with a new ASUS A7N8X Motherboard, Athlon 2700+ CPU.
I know that replacing the motherboard doesn't go very smoothly if you're running Windows 2000, so can someone point me to the correct procedures to do this ??

I remember seeing another Microsoft knowlege base article dealing with changing the motherboard, and what registry settings to change before doing so, but can't find it now. Does anybody remember seeing that ??
Here is a very complete set of options But the registry keys it mentions are also mentioned in the article that Ya_know pointed you towards.
Yup .... it was 'withdrawn' & replaced with the one Ya_Know found ... originally they looked at only the motherboard implications... (they've also been busy re-numbering & chopping duplicated material ... I do wish they'd 'fix' search first !!)Quote:

All in all ,if you are 'dubious' about any of it ... a fresh clean shinny new install is bestist !! :D

Rebuilding your computer from scratch is like the tech's version of Spring cleaning. I highly recommend it. Assuming you're careful about making reliable backups of all yoru data first. Rebuilding your PC is therapeutic, good for your PC, good for you!
Besides, its good practice to do a planned rebuild. Helps you recover faster next time your hard drive pukes and dies.
I do a wipe and reload every fall. It keeps my feng-shui aligned.
...that and all the crap I download over the year clogs up me system...;)
I am with these other guys. Yeah, it's fun sometime to see how creative you can be and what you can accomplish, but when it is all said and done, reloading the OS, installing all of your apps, and configuring and tweaking should only take an evening or two. If it takes longer than I think you are out of practice, and need to do it twice to make sure you know what you are doing...:DQuote:

Since I just did a clean install, going from Windows ME (yuck !!) to W2K, I belive I can do it again... The only problem was doing the Windows update - downloading over 50 MB on a 56k dial-up. (yuck again !!)Quote:
