Flea markets are pirating movies

i went to the flea market today and i was shocked they where selling movies that where still in the thearter.

usually i dont see that stuff when i go.

i seen a couple of tables selling matrix reloaded , bruce almighty hulk.

at first i was like, it probably looks like crap. but i walked up to this one table where these guys looked like drug dealers and the guy had a dvd of matrix relaoded and offered to show it to me. so im like ok. it looked ok. i couldnt get a really good view since there was a big glare from the sun and i was outside, the flea market was outdoors and indoors. it was funny he seemed pissed when i decided not to buy it and went about my business.

but i know thats illegal cant they close down the flea market because of that or fine it.

it was only 8 bucks but i was looking for some gifts for my dad and two brothers who are also dads.

but i did buy this nice wooden chinese budah and it looks kick ***.

also there was a booth where this guy was selling preditor and aliens figures but he was closed so that sucked.

Over here in the UK at a car boot sale a couple of weeks back there was a table full of obviously pirated software. Anything you wanted, XP, Photoshop, Office etc. I have never seen it sold so openly before. I was shocked as I thought that this was STAMPED on over here. At the computer fairs the people selling mp3's have slowly dissapeared and now bang, someone selling 100% dodgy software and doing it in broad daylight.
When I mentioned this to colleagues they all said they've seen it a lot of it recently, and the MP3 sellers are back at the computer fairs too, and selling more than mp3's these days too, cough cough Matrix reloaded cough cough.

Has a new law been passed that I missed?

I don't know about a new law being past but part of why they can do that is that no one turns them in. At least here in the states, everyone seems to be cutting the budget and sending investigators or even uniformed cops to those things is a drain on the system. So if no one reports it the cops don't know.

IF your house was burglarized and no one reported it, the cops wont' do anything either.

I can't believe you are amazed by software piracy !! It's rampant !!! :eek2:

Its estimated that 50% of the worlds software is pirated ... I wouldn't even like to guess about music ...

Don't cry too hard for the 'big boys' they make plenty of money ! With the cost of cd writers & now cheapie DVD writers its not exactly difficult to do & I'd say inevitable ....

Perhaps if content distributers stopped charging ridiculous prices for CDs, DVDs & games there'd be a fair bit less 'borrowing' of their copyrighted material ...

Why for instance does a pressed DVD cost more than a VHS tape of exactly the same thing ? Don't tell me blank DVDs cost more in bulk than VHS tapes ... 'cos I don't believe it !

exactly - $18 for a CD? And of that $18 how much is actually going to go to the artist whom I'm supposedly supporting by buying his/her CD. . . the answer is little to none.

Swap-O-Rama on Ashland maybe?

I go there once a while and see people selling CD's that they burn and sell as "compilations". I think next time I see one, I'm going to make a big stink about it.

The Dixie Chicks know all about that scam. They had to sue Sony records (I think I got the right label) just to get their money. They were all broke, and with several multi platinum records. The fans tried to support them, but the contract business almost got the best of them…

Of course I'm fully aware of software piracy, it's just that I was shocked to see it being offered so openly in broad daylight. It's not something I'd seen before that day. :eek:

It used to be carried out quite blatantly outside a several well used Manchester computer fairs until fairly recently.
Several "vendors" would lay dozens of CDR compilations,DVD films & game CD`s out quite openly for inspection by prospective buyers at 5 pounds a pop until it was cracked down on my authorities.I have also heard tales of market stalls quite openly selling bootleg software/MP3 compilations at weekend meets or boot sales.

im just amazed that these people are not afraid of getting busted, everything is out in the open on broad day light.


im going to go to the flea market this weekend maybe but not to buy piratted stuff , to go buy those aliens and hellraiser action figures.

is that the swap or rama that use to be known as venture? and across the street there was a meat factory or something? also there is a mcdonalds in the parking lot i think with a huge fish tank.

if it is, i went there before a long long long time ago. the area a little ghetto now, but i use to go to grammer school there a long time ago in that area a school called sacred heart which is now closed down. hmm thinking of that place brings back childhood memories.


but the swap o rama i go to is on 127 and pulaski.

i haven't been to the one on 127th in a few years. i may check it out again this weekend.
