anyone used ECS brand laptops?

yo has anyone used or heard of laptops of the brand called ECS (Elitegroup Computer Systems http://www.ecs.com.tw/)? the laptops' specs are quite decent, and they are the only brand i've seen so far (or maybe i'm quite oudated :knife: ) that puts a P4/C 3.06GHz processor (w/o HT) into the machines. i'm just concerned about the battery lives and performance for these machines and i dun want to risk it be4 i get my next laptop... if any of you are familiar with ECS i'll appreciate your comments :cool:

ECS is part of the PCChips group, which, being a "bottom end" budget manufacturer, has not had a good reputation in many cases. With ECS, it seems they have been working to improve their position in the market, but I find it hard to feel confident of the product, however others may have good experiences to relate.

Well, if this helps any, I built a new pc for my sister with an ECS motherboard, and it runs beautifully. My sister is your typical female pc user....use & abuse. Since she's had it, I never hear any complaints from her and it always runs smoothely whenever I visit from time to time.

Yes, ECS and PC Chips are low-end quality, but I have 3 computers with PC Chips & ECS motherboards which work fine for me. If you're going to use the pc for typical day to day use, then it's fine. If you expect more from these motherboards, then you had better know more than switch on & go, and don't expect a wedding cake when you're using crap for Crisco.

In conclusion, if you treat a PC Chips and/or ECS motherboard the same as you do your car by performing the routine maintenance, then you should be fine.

Oh man, my g/f... but watch out, Noonoo's around here somewhere.

I had/have an ECS board, and i could tell it wasn't the greatest. It ran somewhat fine for me, but there were issues it had that persisted until the day i went BACK to my 440BX board (temporarily at least).

I suggest watching a bit longer on these boards. I just don't trust ECS, and am not going to buy another mainboard from them. Who knows though, you could get lucky and get a good one

OK the only comment I would make is that it is NOT a mobile chip so it will eat the battery and you won't be able to step the speed down... here is the telling quote

Noo is of course 'da man !' even though she is of course female ... ;) ... a suitably confus-ed statement ! .... :D

But on the subject of ECS/PC chips I ain't confus-ed in the least ... these are stictly for 'other people' , other than myself ! ;)

They are as Platypus says a 'bottom end budget manufacturer' ... so it might be ok to stick a cheap replacement part in a machine on the grounds of cost, & I will give ground & say they are 'rapidly improving' in quality terms (but all of the budget market has !) ...

However Hell will have to cool a lot more before I'd be recommending anyone stick their pennies into a lappie made by them, couple that with Noo's insightful comments about poor battery life & I think you have a no-no ... Not a NooNoo, she is of course unique :kiss:, but a thumbs down from this particular contibutor too ....

Unfortunately, like Miss Cleo, I have no psychic powers, so I was unable to determine NooNoo's gender. Regardless, NooNoo is chock full of useful knowledge and has never disappointed me with her suggestions and advice.

I think a fitting afternoon would be tea and laptops with NooNoo. I wonder if Typhoo would ever sponsor something like that.
