help
I just posted a thread.. No Sound. Atodini told me,
"It looks like your Win ME is set to only install digitally signed drivers. You need to uncheck this, then uninstall & re-install the Yamaha XG drivers."
How do you set ME to install un-signed drivers?
Thanks

I have this link in my favourites ... don't think I ever tried it in ME though ... you'll have to try them :D
This is for xp (maybe they work?) ... ME urghhhhhhhhh ...
I'm intrigued now why we need unsigned drivers to fix whatever it is ... ... Who blocked it ?

ME will only install unsigned drivers if they are forced - apparently it's an option only available when you force drivers and you click an advanced button.
Unfortunately I don't have ME around to check - Any one running ME ?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you met_man, been working away so not been on the comp / forum much.
The unit I had here was, (I thought) a simple reformat / reinstall. It was straightforward until I installed the sound driver (from the mobo disc) The computer was an Evesham, with an ASUS K7 motherboard, Athlon 1333, with Yamaha XG sound onboard.
On the first pass, the install appeared OK but on testing, no sound, all playback options greyed out (but not record oddly). No preferred device specified.
After "faffing" around for an hour or two I decided to force the driver install, that is insist on "I will choose the drivers to install", then to manually map to the drivers on the mobo disc. (I had been up & downloaded drivers from driverguide, but these had the same issue number as those supplied).
I had already uninstalled the audio drivers for the umpteenth time!.
A dialogue box popped up, in which was a checked checkbox which said "only install digitally signed drivers". I unchecked this & tried a conventional install again - all now worked fine!!
I've never seen this particular dialogue box before or since, but I don't (luckily) get too many ME boxes in! If I do get an ME box in I'll play around to see if I can find how to go directly to it & post the route. (I'm tempted if time allows to chuck a copy of ME on a spare box just for this purpose! Won't be this week though!!)
On returning the machine to the customer, he reported that the sound had never worked before as far as he knew!! He didn't use sound anyway!
