Windows Installer errors
Hi All.
Got a problem with windows installer in that everytime I try to run an MS application (like office 2000) I get "windows installer could not be accessed" message. Can't re-install any software or uninstall any software! Doing my head in. Have got SP4 on but still no good. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

No that didn't work unfortunately. Have checked for blaster virus etc but PC is clear. I'm pulling what's left of my hair out over this one!

3. Shutdown and restart in Safe mode by pressing F8 when the boot menu displays.
4. After you log on, run msiexec /regserver.
Did you do that bit?
Are you logged on as administrator?
-
Yep I did that bit. Am on as admin. Haven't tried installing or running office in safe mode though. Worth a try?
-
Did you make sure the Windows Installer service is running when you're attempting to do this?
Try starting it yourself before you do an install/uninstall and see what happens.
-
Um ... how would I do that?
-
Click "Start"
Click "Settings"
Click "Control Panel"
Double-Click "Administrative Tools"
Double-Click "Services"
Right click on on "Windows Installer" service and click "Start"
-
Within the system32 folder, rename the msisip.dll to .old
Download and install the latest MSI 2.0 redistributable package
Restart your PC
It should work fine now (at least it does for me)
