Hello, for the past week, i have been getting the blue screen
with the messsage "system is busy waiting for the close
program dialog box to be displayed" after that my computer
just freezes up and i have to do a re-start.I would hate to
pull out my re-stall disk.
Can you get to your desktop at all?
Can you restart in Safe Mode?
What were you doing before this happened?
Just crusing the net,after i re-start i can get into safe mode,then the same problems start up again.
Try starting from Safe Mode again. Then go Start> Run and type MSCONFIG
When you've done that click OK, Under GENERAL, make sure SELECTIVE STARTUP is checked. Then click the Startup tab. Then uncheck everything except your antivirus application.
Click OK and restart your computer. Tell us what happens.
If this doesn't work, have you updated your antivirus software?
I hear tell that ms blaster can effect a windows 98 system - this would be a symptom of this.
Can you get to say panda online and try a virus scan?
uh, the blaster worm does NOT effect Windows 95,98 or ME. There is no indication from Symantec or Microsoft about Blaster effecting these operating systems.

I just "heard" it, pure hearsay.... I have nothing to back it up. The likelihood of it being an msblast variant is very low, the likelihood of it being a worm that creates that bsod is pretty high though.Quote:

Blaster takes advantage of a known vulnerability in a Winblows component called the DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) interface, which handles messages sent using the RPC (Remote Procedure Call) protocol. It affects computers running M$ Winblows XP and Winblows 2000 O/S’s not Winblows 98 or 95 why because these O/S’s (if you want to call them that) do not run these services. Every time I start to think that open source has some actual potential, some over-zealous dolt has to spout off with unsubstantiated rhetoric about the alleged 'superiority' of linux over Windows.
Hey mongo . . . it is readily apparent that you have very little experience in the real world. Our company, a Fortune 100 firm, recently made the transition from Exchange to Horde, using custom modules and a MySQL back end. Guess what? A few months into the project, we nearly lost everything after we discovered a buffer overflow in Horde that allowed our entire messaging system (email, calendaring, etc) to be compromised. The lesson here is that EVERY operating system can be compromised. Maybe when you move out of Mom & Dad's house and spend a few years in the field, you'll gain a more realistic perspective on things. Microsoft has its share of flaws, but I defy you to show me one example of any complex system (open source or proprietary) that cannot be exploited. Let me save you some time and embarrassment here . . . THERE ARE NONE.
Open source has its merits, but MS didn't get to be as profitable and responsive (for a huge multinational) by being stupid. If you believe otherwise, you are as guilty of being a shill as any of your MS counterparts. So yank your head out of the rabbit hole, or your ***, or wherever you currently have it stuck and read a few books on complex systems, statistical analysis, and perhaps even a few psychology papers . . . you’ll eventually draw the conclusion that there is a pervasive element in human nature to exploit things. A very valid point to ponder is that this is EASIER to do when you have the blueprints (source code). The only reason that linux has yet to be targeted is that it has such a pitifully small market share, especially considering that it is actually a rather mature operating system. Wait a few years, as linux gains ground, and you will see a much bigger threat to security than in any ‘closed’ system (i.e. Solaris, MS, etc).
Hope that you don’t take this too personally, but you needed a reality check.

i hate to post a reply about linux fans but i feel the need to.....I feel that if these linux fans believe that "winblows" is not a real OS or that it sucks, i challenge you to write a better OS. get all your linux friends around and come up with a better OS and better marketing and make it 100% secure so NO virus can infect the system. Then come here and tell everyone how windows sucks. I admit that windows has its problems but when you realize the amount of code that is written, there are bound to be mistakes. also as a last note.....the reason linux is not a virus target is not because its dismal market share....its because the virus writers are using their beloved linux and worship the OS and would rather die than expose the exploits it contains. I wish i had the link but there is a site that contains MANY linux vulnerabilities but they are not talked about much because linux is not as popular as "winblows". nothing is safe when someone wants to get in. linux, FreeBSD, Unix, windows, OSx, etc all have vulnerabilities, it just so happens that the bash-microsoft-linux-rules population seem to only point out MS problems. Sorry for the rant but I am very tired of still-livin-in-moms-basement-linux-drones complaining about windows not knowing that their Holy Grail OS has the same problems but they are to ignorant to realize it. WHEW!!

ALL operating systems have their merits; all have their disadvantages. As for the fanatics on both sides of this argument, it pays to remember that all the time we spend bickering over which is better . . . Windows or Linux (or MAC, or FreeBSD) could be spent MUCH more productively if we directed our efforts in the pursuit of making ALL of them better :)
Let's face it: No matter what your preference in operating systems, and despite all the philosophical tenets, we are ALL hard-core, socially expunged miscreants whose passions for all-things-technical set us apart from the people who can't set the clock on their VCR. I motion that we cease all hostilities concerning the debate over MS-vs-Linux, join forces to merge our collective intellects, and collaborate our efforts on designing genetically-engineered hotties that crave sex 24x7 and possess an instinctive behavior to clean up around the house in-between!
