Need help with Sun workstation, DICOM, ADAC

I know this is a longshot but hopefully someone here dabbles in this:

We have just upgraded our ancient CT scanner to a much newer model that can connect directly to our network. Our old scanner was able to send DICOM data to its partner ADAC workstation only through a Sun workstation interface using the Philips MagicLink-D software. The workstation connected directly to the old CT unit via a crossover cable, and then to the network via a second NIC.

The radiology manager was kind enough to send all the documentation for the workstation along with the old CT scanner which I assume is now in some third-world hospital doing its thing. :sad:

Anyway, the workstation seems to be fine, it boots up and all, but I have no idea how to configure the workstation and the root password is most likely in the stuff that got sent out with the old CT scanner.

I do have a logon (DICOM/DICOM) that starts the interface but once I'm there I don't have a clue how to reconfigure it. The docs are gone, so that avenue is unavailable to us. Our vendor wants to sell us several thousand bucks worth of new interface, which I'd rather not do unless this is our last resort.

If I could find out how to configure the interface I'd be all set, since the ADAC workstation already knows how to find this workstation. All I need is to figure out how to make the MagicLink sofware look at the IP address of the new CT scanner.

Even if you are dealing with Siemens directly, your service contract should cover the fact that the software has to be supported whatever platform it is on, correct?

I'm afraid I wasn't involved in the PACS system enough in a previous job (network manager in a hospital) to offer any actual help, but unless the service contract (for software) specifically mentions that it must be running on their hardware, then it's not even an issue.

If you're still looking to do it solo, google your way through the combinations of "magiclink configuration dicom" and even HL7 or other IO methods which you may be using.

Thanks! I'll need it. The GE guy who's doing the CT scanner install is a nice enough guy but I'm not sure he's got all that he needs to get the job done. I think I'm just about there anyway, we have engaged our ADAC vendor from the back-end and he seems to have an approach that will work. Unfortunately I can't find out until Monday. :(

Our radiology machine network is practically it's own little island.

And maybe it's just trivia, but here is a PACS system built into Knoppix/Linux that you can run off a bootable CD.

Maybe you can toss it on a laptop or whatever and use it as a tool for sniffing out the rest of the radiology devices.
