I have a Power Color Radeon 9200 with 128 MB DDR Ram. Running on an ASUS A7V600 with 512 MB ram and Athlon 2500+, and running Windows XP.
The card works fine in everything except when you try to play a game in 3D mode. As soon as you get into the game it will lock up.
I have the most current BIOS on the motherboard and I was hoping that the new catalist from ATI would fix it but it didn't.
Any ideas?

What version of DirectX ?
What does dxdiag have to say ?

dxdiag seems to crash now since I down loaded the new catalist. DXdiag would run fine before, but I hadn't tried to run it since I installed the new drivers 2 days ago. I locked up the whole system when trying to run the direct3d test.
DirectX files were fine, Direct Draw tested fine, I'm going to try to see if I can get direct3d to work for a bit here too. It did before with the old catalist.
If I turn the AGP back to 4X it is a little more stable. It will go thru the dxdiag fine then, but will still lock up in Nascar 2002 and Starwars Racer.Quote:

Second, you may have to set the AGP slot as low as 1X to get full stability.
If you have ACPI enabled, the video card may be sharing its IRQ with one or more other devices. That is guaranteed to give you lock-ups during 3-D acceleration.
The downside being that if you disable ACPI, you may have to re-install WinXP.

I have recently upgraded to xp pro from xp home. blah blah.
Can some please give me advise on what to do, i'm no techno junky so please be easy going.
Soon as i installed pro it told me i had a vgaa.sys file missing i couldnt find one so i skipped and carried on installing. Now when i boot i get an error message saying my ati control panel failed to start. I've tried a catalist but to no avail.

It might have been better if you had started your own thread to address this problem.
The first suggestion I would make is to re-run the WinXP setup, choosing the repair current installation option. If that doesn't work, a full clean installation (formatting the hard drive) may be necessary.
If there is still a problem, we will need more specific information about your system (motherboard manufacturer, chipset, etc).
