Mouse Trouble
Help! My mouse just started locking up. It started happening every once and a while at one specific part of the screen. Now it just dies anywhere for different time periods. I've tried 2 different mouses, 1 USB and 1 Serial.
Cripes, I got to have my mouse, man!
Thanks,
Harold

I guess you've checked the system for a virus?
Having started at one particular spot on the screen may suggest the video driver, which has to tell the mouse driver what the mouse pointer status is.
To eliminate the possibility of a corrupted video driver file, change temporarily to the generic Windows VGA driver, if the problem goes away, re-install your video drivers.

Thanks Platypus. I've checked for viruses. I'll try your video driver suggestion next. Thanks.

I tried the Win generice video driver, mouse is still locking up. I've removed everything from Startup in MSConfig (except Zone Alarm, which I've used forever w/no problem) and I'm still having the lockups. Argh.

have you tried updating the video drivers? I assume this is an AT board, so no ps/2 mouse port. just USB and serial.

Look also at the irq the mouse is using.. I have seen that happen when the mouse is sharing an irq.

NooNoo,
How do i determine which IRQ it's using and if there is a conflict?
Thanks,

Oh yeah, I'm using Win XP Home edition.

Installed a PS2 mouse this a.m. Seems to be working great. I think it was a coincidence of a bad serial mouse and also a bad connection on the USB port.
Thanks for the help,
Hal
