First off, welcome to Windriver!!
Second, you will need a motherboard and bios which supports "Boot to USB".
Do you have one?
Since USB (HID) is not implemented until the OS initializes, it won't work without Bios support!
Check:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/.../usb-boot.mspx
and

Never triedit myself, but maybe this means more to you or others then me.
cheers~
Somehow I knew, that someone would come up with a workaround!!!
Good find, Craig.
I'll keep this and check it out later.https://forums.windrivers.com/https://forums.windrivers.com/
well its been awhile but you can boot from a usb drive hard cr rom cd r-rw possiably even dvd dvd plus or minus r-rw it work and it doesn't need to be a newer unit I just set up a old real old dell latitude LT laptop pentium 1 maybe 266 even its a real slow laptop and its a stripped down model no cd rom drive or floppy drive built in there external attachments and I didn't have either floppy or cd rom drive although I was able to find a floppy drive the correct one for the unit.but no cd rom but had access to a usb cd-r-rw and the latitude laptop had a single usb port I was able to format the hard and do a clean install of 98SE on it using the usb cd-r-rw as the cd rom drive to do the setup with.you can also find some good info on usb booting at WWW.bootdisk.com you can even down load a couple of versions that might work good for any application I made a combination of my and a relatives thinking and the files at WWW.bootdisk.com and it work the very first try on a real old dell latitude LT laptop 4gig harddrive pentium processor neomagic 128xd video chip and low ram and it fired up though the dos bios and loaded the usb booting right off with out a single problem and loaded into windows setup for 98.
