error code after ghosting hard drive

hello gang, i am having a little problem with a few computers at work.
the coding dept. have 8 (old school) computers running win98 and a coding program that nobody seems to get running.
The manager of that dept has a new p4 2.4 40gig pc and runs great, it also has all the programs that the 8 coders will need in their new pc, wich they are the same as the manger's pc.
I loaded norton ghost 2003 in the managers pc and ghosted to a same size hard drive, 40 gig wd ( managers is a 40 gig maxtor), everything went perfect, no problem what so ever..
when i put the new drive, recently ghosted in the pc and boot it up, this is what i get after i type in the log in as administrator
" A problem is preventing windowsfrom accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x80090006 "

any ideas or fixes are greatly appreciated..

by the way.. doesnt only happen when i log in as administrator, you just log in and the error pops up.. also, it is windows xp pro.

Just checked google as it seemed very similar to my last problem the response is to try an in place upgrade http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBN/tip6800/rh6855.htm

This said I tried ghosting a failing drive and recieved the same/similar message to do with the licence and despite my best efforts I could not resolve it nor could I find any other options to resolve the problem as it appears to be an inbuilt licence feature.So I dont think you will find the solution working after all and may have to do a complete reinstall then copy over the required files.

Did you run "sysprep" on the system before you imaged it? I have always had to run sysprep on all W2000 and XPs systems to remove the sids and so forth.

I find this to work well with no problems. Take the target drive and install it in the PC to ghosted. Start the PC up and let the operating system recognize the hard drive. Shutdown and reboot to your boot disk and then ghost. The reason for this is XP needs the serial number of the hard drive for it to register it in the license. I had no problem with (2) XP Pro macines.
