Novell also just bought Ximian, developers of the Evolution Groupware (in essence, Outlook for Linux with a few knobs on it). I'd say they are placing themselves firmly in the open source market for the desktop. I don't use either SuSe or Ximian (Debian and Mozilla mail man), so I don't know what the results would be like. One thing is that it drums up more interest in Linux, and thats always good.Quote:

well hope novell does somthing good with there buys.. and not kill the good open source apps :(
I believe it will purchase can be positive for both companies. Novell will add some legitimacy to SuSe in corporate boardrooms where name recognition sells. Suse will help Novell by giving it a foot in the growing Linux market and rekindle interest among techs who may have written Novell off as a fast cooling corpse. Hope Novell doesn’t drop the ball, they don’t have many chances left.
