I got a Win98 P11 128MB Dell laptop and have just gone with tiscali broadband. I loaded up the new modem drivers OK and can connect out on the net (have my 2 little PC's bottom right of screen), emails eventually OK. But - in IE I never get a page displayed at all. I tried netscape 7 but same problem. Page just never loads, eventually get a timed out error message. Tried calling tiscali helpdesk at 50p a minute, but they didn't know. Not sure what else to try. (With 56K modem, pages load fine.)
First I would check the proxy settings in Internet options. Also is there any firewall or Norton product running on that PC?
You might also want to check the IP configuration - is it set for DHCP or static IP?
OK I will check those and get back to you. I'm not quite sure what it is I am looking for, but will let you know. By the way, I did uninstall all anti-virus software first.

Clear all this lot ! (note how there are multiple instances of tcp/ip - one is bound to the dial-up adapter & another to the NIC !)

I'd try removing all the protocols, clients & services from your connections properties & then manually add the ones that should show on that Tiscali help page (presumming you did find the 98 one!?) & see if that does it, then go back & fix the dialup later (adding its protocols etc).
Click the LAN Settings button in Tools - Internet Options - Connections and make sure that nothing is checked.
The only network protocol needed for Windows XP broadband is Internet Protocol(TCP/IP).

I didn't know that having a link to my site was a problem because I've done it in all the other forums that I'm a member of.
My connection tips only apply to 56K dial-up, so my previous comment wouldn't apply.
By all means add it to your 'sig' (use user cp) ... just make it clear its 'your own' site, we get folks (& this ain't aimed at you) who make replies just to generate traffic...Quote:
