Tomb of the Unknown Modem

Had a customer bring in a PricePC brand computer because he couldn't access the internet. "After further review" I noticed his computer had tossed the modem drivers. Problem is that the modem is a riser type modem with nothing on it except FB PCTEL AMR and there is a sticker on the back that says Cyber Solutions. The FCC ID is 6WICHN-35741-M5-E and there is nothing on the internet or DriverGuide about this mysterious modem. I've tried the generic PCTel modem drivers without success. Has anyone heard of this modem or know where I can get the drivers???
:confused: The computer is using XP PRO and it doesn't have the drivers for this modem.

I willing to bet that if you talk with the user, you'll find out he got a driver CD.. Otherwise, it's not worth your time to spend even 1/2 hour searching for drivers. Tell him he needs to buy a new modem cause you can't find the drivers. If he wants you to look tell him "I'll look for has long has you want, My time is @ $XX/hour and i have no guarantees that i can get the drivers, this other solution will cost you flat out $X amount."

The Modem was registered by Max Light Tech (HK). Being an AMR the Motherboard manufacturer site would be the best route to find the drivers. If you would post the motherboard details I'm sure it can be found.

Or post it on WD & somebody will find it for you or try (at least!)...

But I'd have bought a new one by now... ;)

The only thing might be why doesn't the system have the drivers there? But I suppose the 'mysterious' modem just made a magical appearance.... perhaps "After further review" is some sort of spell?? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Ensure forst that you have installed the drivers for the Motherboard chipset first. Also After these drivers have been installed, their are additional drivers for AMR chipset based modems on Windows Update.

Thanks DW and all the others that were involved, you were right about the modem and main board. Turns out the modem went south. Replaced the modem and everyones happy again and I didn't have to spend a day chasing drivers.
